Should the press be held to account for fabricating stories or manipulating photographs ? See Examples Below?

The New York Times has had several scandals relating to stories that had no basis in truth. Jason Blair scandal was one example there were others however. Reuters has just fired a reporter for doctoring photographs. The BBC reporting caused a man to commit suicide because their story was made up. I am not making the case for censorship I just think that the public has a right to accurate information from these sources.
